Bold lip colors are my jam (proof in the photos above). I wear them often, so finding lipstick, lip pencil and lip crayon formulas that really stay put are a favorite past time. Especially now that I have fine lines showing up around my mouth — a result of drinking out of a straw all the time (a habit I’ve recently kicked).

Drew Barrymore’s Flower beauty has launched new blush that rocked my world. See, when it comes to makeup, I’m definitely a blush girl — though lashes are starting to come in a close second, but I’ll get to that in a second. A flush on my cheeks makes me feel more awake, and well, more pretty, less frumpy. I kind of went bananas when I first tried Flower Transforming Touch Powder-To-Crème Blush, $13 (available in Walmart stores nationwide and coming to walmart.com soon, score!). The first of its kind, this blush transforms from a powder to a silky cream as you blend it into the apples of your cheeks. And it’s not that chalky, mousse-y texture either. It’s a smooth cream that disappears into your skin leaving a natural flush. Love it. Continue reading
Over the past few days we’ve been lucky enough to hangout backstage at New York Fashion Week to scope out the looks that we’ll all be wearing come Fall 2015.
The first look Carrie and I both agreed was a must-copy? The makeup seen at the Nanette Lepore show. Created to look like a rich, posh rebellious school girl who got a little (ok, a lot!) carried away with her mascara, this look is equal parts pretty and rough. Lead makeup artist Grace Lee created the look by applying more than 12 coats of three different mascaras. No joke! The three she used: Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Mascara, Maybelline New York Pumped Up Colossal Volum’ Express and a brand new Maybelline mascara that doesn’t come out until June. She applied about four coats of each until the models’ lashes were spidery and clumpy. The lip color, which is equally as cool, is the Maybelline New York Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Orchid Ecstasy. She finished the look by dabbing a bit of colorless lip balm (Maybelline New York Baby Lips in Quenched) on the upper cheekbones for a touch of glow.
Do you love it as much as we do?
I’ll cut right to the chase. My two favorite makeup looks (or trends, more like) from tonight’s 2015 Grammy Awards? Allover nude or natural-looking makeup (a la Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and Chrissy Teigen) and jewel toned eye makeup (think Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift). While the natural/nude trend was stunning on the carpet and definitely worth recreating, it’s a little less exciting to talk about. That’s why I’ll focus here on how to get my next fave look of the night: jewel toned eye makeup.
To get Gaga’s metallic emerald-hued eyes, makeup artist Sarah Tanno did the following:
- Applied Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Tin (SV810) on lids and used Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Mist (WT901) on her inner corners.
- She smudged Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar (BK912) on the outer corners of the lids into the lash lines for added depth. She set the cream shadows with Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Lido (GR412).
- Tanno applied Shiseido Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in Black (BK901) around the eyes and blended.
- To finish the eyes, Tanno used two coats of Shiseido Perfect Mascara Defining Volume in Black (BK901).
