My Favorite Long-Lasting Lip Color of All Time (and a Bargain Swap You Must Try)

Bold Lip Colors

Bold is Beautiful

Bold lip colors are my jam (proof in the photos above). I wear them often, so finding lipstick, lip pencil and lip crayon formulas that really stay put are a favorite past time. Especially now that I have fine lines showing up around my mouth — a result of drinking out of a straw all the time (a habit I’ve recently kicked).

Wine Hued Lips Aren’t Going Anywhere

Lily-Collins

It’s only mid August, but because the kids are going back to school (What happened to starting after Labor Day?!), September issues have hit the stands and stores are chock-full of fall collections, I’m craving the more serious (dramatic, even) makeup looks that come along with cooler weather.

The fall runway makeup trend I’ll be wearing often come fall (If I can hold out that long), is a rich, wine-hued lip color. Oxblood-colored lipsticks were big last fall and they’re going to be hot again for fall 2013. I love the shade actress Lily Collins wore to the premiere of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones earlier this weekThe only thing I’ll do differently with my makeup is to keep the eyes a little more natural. I’ll sweep a taupe shadow across my lids (from lashlines to creases) and swipe on a couple of coats of black mascara on top lashes only. It’ll make the dramatic look more wearable for everyday. If you don’t have a wine-colored lipstick in your stash, try one of these ones.

KA-POW! Bright Pink Lips

This bright pink, matte lipstick Ginnifer Goodwin’s rockin’ is just about the coolest shade I’ve seen on the red carpet lately (and a slightly bolder version of the look Elizabeth Banks sported last month). The perfect, almost neon pink makes a major statement, especially in relation to her lady-like white lace dress. Pretty, pretty! I love how she kept the rest of her makeup and hair clean and simple. I mean, let the lips speak for themselves, right? To make ultra-bold lips fade- and feather-proof, follow these steps:

Step 1. Dab a tiny bit of your regular concealer over your lips and around the edges. This fills in any fine-lines so the color doesn’t bleed and creates a nice base for your lipstick to hang on to. I love Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette, $10.

Step 2. Line your lips with a pencil in the same (or similar) bold shade to give your lips a sharp outline. Try MAC Lip Pencil in Embrace Me, $14.

Step 3. Finally, fill in with the crazy pink of your choice, like Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage, $25.

I’m wearing this color tomorrow. Would you wear your lips this bright?
