I’m back. You probably didn’t realize I was gone, but I was. Well, not really. I wasn’t on some lavish vacation or taking time off to have another kid (that would have been a good excuse!). I’ve just been working too hard at my full-time gig and on being a mom and wife to squeeze in time for my other love – beauty. I always thought I was one of those women who could do it all, but this year I’ve been rocked by the realization that it’s just not possible — no matter how hard I try. To be fair, it might actually be possible, but if you’re doing it all, you’re probably not doing it all … well. Or you’ll never feel like you’re doing it well, anyway. I sure didn’t, so something (other than my sanity) had to give.
What I realized in my time off though is that I need the creative outlet beauty and this blog gives me, along with the few minutes to myself that I’d otherwise give away. So here I am, attempting to get back into action one hair makeover and lipstick post at a time.
In my time away I’ve had so many beauty ideas I’ve wanted to share, but I’ll offer up one at a time for the sake of space, and your precious time.
First up: Natural beauty products. Last Friday, WWD (the bible for fashion and beauty industry peeps) reported that nearly 60 percent of women read beauty product labels today – this according to The Green Beauty Barometer study, which was conducted by natural beauty brand Kari Gran (a brand I’m dying to try and have a full shopping cart with).
Back in May I did my first installment of Good to the Last Drop and due to its popularity, I thought I’d keep the concept going. Here are the latest (and greatest!) beauty products I squeezed or scooped every last bit of product from …
Rodan + Fields Unblemish Oil-Control Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 20
This zinc- and titanium dioxide-based sunscreen protected my skin without causing additional breakouts. I love the non greasy formula that doesn’t turn my makeup all funky. Only down side is the size of the tube. I polished this off quickly.
Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer
I talk endlessly about this concealer and it breaks my heart to finish off a tube because a replacement costs a steep $70. It’s so worth it though. Nothing, and I mean nothing, covers blemishes and brown spots like this baby. It’s a small miracle.
Mario Bedascu Seaweed Night Cream
My skin is beyond prone to breakouts. It’s been my number one beauty problem since the day I got pregnant three years ago. Thanks to that issue, I have to slather on acne-fighting beauty products consistently, which are super drying. This night cream has been my savior though. It’s oil-free, but the hard-working hyaluronic acid moisturizes like a dream.
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara
If you like slutty-looking lashes like I do (think thick, long and clumpy-in-a-good-way), this should be the next mascara you try. No question.
What was the last beauty product you finished? Please share!
If you’re looking for a way to end your work week on a positive note, treat yourself to the Kiehl’s Limited Edition Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, $28.50. Not only is it a rich, hard-working hand cream, but one hundred percent of the net profits benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. Kiehl’s just wrapped up their fifth annual LifeRide campaign, which aims to bring awareness and raise cash for amfAR and involves some kick ass motorcycles. Gotta love it when the brands you covet are passionate about giving back.
Check out this video if want to get scoop on what LifeRide is all about — you’ll see some familiar faces in the mix, too. Happy weekend, all!
The biggest compliment a beauty product can receive — especially from a product-obsessed gal like myself — is to have every last drop, swipe, dab, etc. used. So with that in mind, here are the four products I just finished off:
Kiss My Face 4-in-1 Lavender & Shea Moisture Shave, $7.95
I’ve written about other nice natural shaving creams in the past, but this one blew those out of the water. It offers up a substantial lather and has a fantastically subtle, but lovely lavender scent. Need another bottle stat!
Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo & Conditioner, $18-19
Truth be told, I have one or two more shampoos left in the bottle, but the conditioner is totally gone. I hate having a mismatched set, but I can’t ever seem to use enough shampoo. They should just make those bottles smaller. Or give us more conditioner. Yeah, more conditioner! Anyway, this wash and conditioner smell divine — they have a warm nutty, yet subtly perfume-y scent — and make my dry, straw-like hair feel so much softer. Continue reading
