I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but I aged out of the VMAs. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen a music video since Beyonce released her video album in 2014 or maybe it’s simply because I’m old. My friend and former CosmoGIRL! colleague Lauren put it best yesterday. On Facebook she posted, “2 years ago I was in the audience at the VMAs. Tonight I turned it off because I quite honestly couldn’t take it for one more minute. #nolongerwantmymtv #kidsdontgetthatreference.” I feel her pain. But, that didn’t keep me from perusing the red carpet photos from the event. Out of them, along with a lot of crazy, came this whimsical Vanessa Hudgens hairstyle. One part beachy, one part bohemian goddess, this look is totally achievable and stunning. Here’s how Schwarzkopf celebrity hairstylist, Richard Collins created the look:
Step 1: Spritz heat protecting spray on dry hair.
Step 2: Create soft waves all over using a one-inch curling iron skipping a few thick sections of hair around your face. Spritz waves with hairspray for hold.
Step 3: Create two braids along both sides of your hairline (using the sections of hair you didn’t curl in the previous step) and secure with tiny, clear hair elastics. Wrap each braid to the opposite side of your head, and secure above your ears with bobby pins. This will created a braided headband or crown look. Finish with shine spray.
Products used: Schwarzkopf styliste Crystal Shine & Hold Heat Protection Shine Spray, Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Biotin+ Volume & Texture H2O-Free Hair Spray, Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Crystal Shine & Hold Laminating Shine Hair Spray, $6.95 each at Walmart.
Drew Barrymore’s Flower beauty has launched new blush that rocked my world. See, when it comes to makeup, I’m definitely a blush girl — though lashes are starting to come in a close second, but I’ll get to that in a second. A flush on my cheeks makes me feel more awake, and well, more pretty, less frumpy. I kind of went bananas when I first tried Flower Transforming Touch Powder-To-Crème Blush, $13 (available in Walmart stores nationwide and coming to walmart.com soon, score!). The first of its kind, this blush transforms from a powder to a silky cream as you blend it into the apples of your cheeks. And it’s not that chalky, mousse-y texture either. It’s a smooth cream that disappears into your skin leaving a natural flush. Love it. Continue reading
I’ll cut right to the chase. My two favorite makeup looks (or trends, more like) from tonight’s 2015 Grammy Awards? Allover nude or natural-looking makeup (a la Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and Chrissy Teigen) and jewel toned eye makeup (think Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift). While the natural/nude trend was stunning on the carpet and definitely worth recreating, it’s a little less exciting to talk about. That’s why I’ll focus here on how to get my next fave look of the night: jewel toned eye makeup.
To get Gaga’s metallic emerald-hued eyes, makeup artist Sarah Tanno did the following:
Rosamund Pike’s simple bob was my favorite look of the night. A fresh departure from the old Hollywood waves we see everywhere, this style looks black-tie, red carpet ready, yet super accessible. And it’s making me want to chop my hair.

Lupita Nyong’o didn’t disappoint as she continues to dominate the red carpet with bold and right-on-the-mark makeup choices. Beautiful purple shadow and a glossy pink lip are the perfect complement to her skin tone and lavender gown.

Allison William’s charcoal smoky eye and sculpted faux-bob wasn’t my favorite at the Golden Globes — at first. But after I saw it again from a different angle, I couldn’t help but become obsessed with how striking and pretty it was. Now it’s one of my top pics.

Gina Rodriguez’s nude lip and natural makeup (well, natural except for the layers of false lashes) really caught my attention. This Golden Globes newbie knows she doesn’t need to try too hard for glitz and glamour.

Lorde’s sleek, gelled low ponytail and classic red lip look grown up, yet fun. Perfectly sculpted bold brows give her look a sharp elegance, making it one of the top looks of the night.

Keira Knightley’s earthy tones and berry lip accentuate her naturally beautiful features and look down right perfect IMHO. Her lip line is soft and diffused (glide a Q-tip along the edges of your lipstick to achieve this), which gives it a pretty, and delicate look.
