When it comes to natural-looking hair color trends, first there was Ombre and then Sombre (subtle Ombre) and now it’s all about babylights. Babylights (as seen most recently on model Karlie Kloss) are very finely painted highlights that result in a stunning and super natural-looking finish. If you, like me, are someone who has always wanted to have the color you did as a child, babylights are just the ticket. What’s also great about them is that you’ll need to color your hair less often to get the best results, according to L’Oréal Paris Consulting Celebrity Colorist Kari Hill. “Keeping the consistency of the look requires more root than a normal highlight retouch. Spreading your appointments out and making sure you’re not coloring the same hair will help keep this subtle look perfectly maintained,” she says.
If you go the babylights route, the key to keeping the color looking fresh and as natural as possible is to “keep this color looking exceptionally shiny … enhance the look by using shine sprays, serums and oils, ” says Master Stylist and Co-Founder of the Warren-Tricomi Salon, Edward Tricomi.
