NYFW: Obsessed With the Hairstyle Seen at the Jason Wu Show

Jason Wu Hairstyle New York Fashion Week

As many of you may know, New York Fashion Week is in full swing. And while I normally make it out to the big city to join in on the festivities, this season, I’m opting out. Having a 7-month-old at home doesn’t make travel easy, and because the good ol’ NYC is supposed to get 30 inches of snow, I think  I’m better off here in sunny California. But, that doesn’t mean I’m not scoping out all of the fabulous hairstyles and makeup looks the uber talented artists backstage are creating. And, while I comment on looks from afar, Carrie Stern Kleiner, your other Beauty Editor On Call, will be in the trenches backstage. She’ll be sure to keep you guys in the loop on the tips and tricks the amazing artists are utilizing.

my wedding

The first look I have to comment on (and share a quick how-to for) is the elegant hairstyle seen at the Jason Wu show. It’s beautiful, for sure, but it also reminds me of my wedding gown. Sigh. I wore a draped bodice Vera Wang gown made of english netting (pictured above). It was stunning. The crisscrossed fabric on the bodice looked exactly like this hairstyle created by Odile Gilbert. The style would be perfect for an occasion like a wedding. Here’s how to recreate it:

Step 1: Create a center part on damp hair then divide hair into three sections — two in front of your ears and one at the back of your head.

Step 2: Divide the back section horizontally.

Step 3: Apply a smoothing cream (try Kerastase Ciment Thermique, $39) to the lower back section and create a tight braid. Wrap the braid around the back of your head (in a flat, coil shape) and secure it with bobby pins. This will act as an anchor for your style.

Step 4: Drap the upper back section over the braid and roll your hair into a knot. Secure it over the braid to hide it.

Step 5: Apply smoothing cream to the front left section and spritz it with hairspray. Pull it over toward the right side of your head and wrap it under the knot in the center. Pin it to the braid to secure it in place.

Step 6: Repeat with the right section.

Step 7: Top the style with a bit of shine serum or spray for a super shiny finish (try Kerastase Elixir Ultime Moringa Immortel, $54) and set with hairspray.

If you’re curious to know what makeup look was paired with this gorgeous hairstyle … stay tuned for our next post.

I absolutely love the hairstyle, and would love to try it for Valentine’s night, but unfortunately I don’t understand your instructions at all 😦
